It is time for a new name change for the holiday called “Memorial Day”. Although, the reason that a holiday had been originally dedicated was to honor dead military people, today it is not a very good holiday name. By the name of “Memorial Day” itself we are forcing those who have lost the most, the survivors of the dead, to be reminded of their grief. The ultimate sacrifice of dying is not the only sacrifice that has been made in building this country. In many cases those who have lived have sacrificed the most. A lot of blood has been lost by those who have been injured and survived who, because of the name “Memorial Day”, feel guilty because they lived or did not get a “Purple Heart” for their injury. Whether you shed blood or not a lot of those who struggled to build this country were not wearing a military uniform. This country has been built on the struggles of aliens to get into this country. With the proper name change for the new holiday they would find cause to celebrate their struggles also. A new name change would be a way of reuniting this country. Nobody wants to memorialize anything. It is a bad word that although, people are comfortable with it from familiarly and it is easy to pronounce, nobody likes to use. We need to celebrate the struggles to build this country and thank everyone that helps to build it and we will with the new name of “Sacrifice Day”.
